Leader

Anda Petrovici was born on March 25th, 1954. She graduated the "George Enescu" Music Lyceum, with professor Aniela Beldi, being considered the best student of the class. In 1977, when she finished the studies at the "Ciprian Porumbescu" State Conservatoire in Bucharest, with professor Ştefan Gheorghiu, she was again considered the best violin player graduate. The same year, she participated in the Glasgow master classes where she studied with the famous professors Klaus Assmann and Gustav Marschner.

Anda Petrovici is a laureate of the National Contests of Young Musicians (Bucharest, 1969 and 1973) and of the international contest "Spring in Prague" and of the two "Vaclav Huml" competitions in Zagreb (1977 – when she was awarded the special prize of the jury presided over by Henryk Szeryng – and 1981). As soon as she graduated the Conservatoire, she joined the Symphony Orchestra of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic, and in 1978 she was one of the founding members of the "Pro Arte" Trio, which has been, since 2009, the official chamber music ensemble of the Bucharest Philharmonic.

Harmoniously blending her activity as an orchestra member with that of concert soloist and chamber music performer, Anda Petrovici has participated in numerous international tours and festivals in Europe and the Far East. Quite often, musical critique eulogistically mentioned her performances. Moreover, she also made various recordings for the Romanian Radio and Television, LPs for the Electrecord (the Romanian record house), CDs for BMG and DVDs for AIX Records.

Starting 1989, Anda Petrovici has been the leader of the Symphony Orchestra of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic, being the first woman in this position since the setting up of the orchestra, more than 140 years ago.

In 2004, she was awarded the Meritul Cultural (Cultural Merit) Order with the Commander degree.

In June 2009, Anda Petrovici received the degree of Doctor of Music with Summa cum laude, presenting the thesis entitled The Leader: Diachronic Analysis and Artistical Postulate.

Anda Petrovici plays a Gennaro Vinaccia violin (about 1770).
