The story of an education project

through and for music

Classic is fantastic it is an education project through and for music and is carried out in two directions: How to understand music, for children over 7 years old (Great Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum) and The childhood of great musicians, for children between 3/4 and 7/8 years, theater performances with music that take place, since November 2012, in the Great Hall of the Odeon Theatre. In 2022, UNITER granted a special space to this section of the project for its educational value.

The concerts, with a monthly frequency, in the Great Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum, address various topics from the simple How to understand music to How to understand music and theater, Music and dance, Music and film, Music and literature, Music and cartoons.... The performances at the Odeon Theatre, in number of 13, present in a sympathetic, colorful and intensely interactive setting the stories that tell how two mice, Sică and Rică, and their friend, the cat Lola, lived in the violin of Antonio Vivaldi, in the organ of Johann Sebastian Bach, in the library of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart under the pianos of Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin, in the garden in front of George Enescu's house... and that today, old man Sol enumerates, with luxurious detail, what wonderful things he learned from his great-great-grandchildren about the childhoods of these great composers.

The second concert of the month, from the Clasic series, is fantastic. How to understand music is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, October 22 when, with the help of the Orchestra of the National College of Arts "Dinu Lipatti" we aim to answer the question How is an orchestra made and how is it unmade? We will explain to the youngest music lovers how the instruments came to be combined, how one violin was added to another and a duet was formed; how then three instruments came to play together and a trio was formed; then four instruments (quartet), five instruments (quintet), six instruments (sextet), seven instruments (septet), eight instruments (octet), nine instruments (nonet), ten instruments (dixtuor); how we got to a small chamber orchestra of about 10-15 stringed instruments to which some wind instruments are added... We will also explain the appearance of the conductor who will be absolutely necessary to lead the increasingly numerous orchestra and in which formulas the ensemble ends up collaborating with one or more soloists instrumentalists soloists. The chosen musical pages are signed by famous composers whom the history of music has placed in a place of honor: Vivaldi, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Liszt...

The opera Carmen (1875) by George Bizet is, what can be called, a hit of the lyrical theater. The title is never missing from the repertoire of opera houses around the world and all mezzo-sopranos, and all tenors and baritones dream of playing Carmen, Don José or Toreador Escamillo . The music is so beautiful that it attracted the attention of other composers who wrote, for different instruments, famous variations on the main arias. Thus there are Carmen Variations, pages of great virtuosity, for violin, piano, flute, a Carmen ballet and vocalist Irina Sârbu is working on a jazz version. In our concert we will give you the opportunity to listen to these musical pages and see a fragment of the ballet signed by Bizet-Scedrin. The public will thus be able to know, recognize, compare and, of course, applaud the wonderful music as well as the performances of the performers.

Symphony Orchestra of the "George Enescu" National College of Music

We are happy to announce that, starting this season, the symphony orchestra of the "George Enescu" National College of Music conducted by Prof. Gheorghe Iliuță joins our project with two concert programs. The first is entitled De Crăciun and proposes a repertoire suitable for the winter holidays made up of popular works by Johann Strauss and Johann Strauss-son, Tchaikovsky, Șostacovici, Leroy Anderson, Morricone / A. Tudor and of course, Romanian carols.
